Soccer Draws Scoreless with UNK

Griffs play to second tie of season

ST. JOSEPH – Griffon Soccer held Nebraska-Kearney (1-6-5, 0-2-3) scoreless for 110 minutes, Sunday, but the Lopers did the same to Missouri Western (4-6-2, 1-3-1). The teams played to a 0-0 tie through two overtimes at Spratt Stadium.
 
NOTABLES
  • The second tie of the season is the most for MWSU since two draws in the 2013 season. Missouri Western had decisions in every game the previous two seasons.
  • Missouri Western managed two more shots than UNK (23-21) and four more shots on goal (13-9).
  • Each team had a slight edge in each period with UNK out-shooting the Griffs 11-8 in the first half, the Griffons holding a 12-9 advantage in the second. MWSU took three shots in the first overtime, but did not have a shot in the final 10 minutes.
  • The Griffs took seven corner kicks to UNK's three.
  • Taylor Schwartzkopf had five total shots and four on goal. Lillian Davis, Claire Meyers and Kaili Campbell each had two shots on goal.
  • Anna Mayer needed eight saves to hold the Lopers scoreless.
