Soccer Heads for Southern Missouri Road Trip

Griffons to take on Southwest Baptist and Missouri Southern this weekend.

GRIFFON SOCCER THIS WEEK
Friday, Oct. 12, 4:00 p.m. at Southwest Baptist (0-10-2, 0-4-1 MIAA)
Sunday, Oct. 14, 1:00 p.m. at Missouri Southern (6-4-2, 2-2-1 MIAA)
 
ST. JOSEPH – Missouri Western Soccer (8-4) will travel to southern Missouri this weekend for the last two games of its four-game road trip. The Griffons will enter Friday after going 1-1 in last weekend's games.
 
 
5 THINGS TO WATCH
  • Claire Meyers has sparked the Griffon offense the last four games. She has two goals and one assist in those contests.
  • Scoring two goals in usually enough for the Griffons. The team is 7-1 this season in games that they score at least two.
  • Missouri Western will be looking for its fifth straight win against Missouri Southern. The Lions have not defeated the Griffons since 2013.
  • Missouri Western currently sits fourth in the MIAA with a 3-2 conference record. They could move up as high as second with two wins this weekend.
  • Coach Chad Edwards will be coaching against his alma mater at Missouri Southern this weekend, where he played on the men's soccer team from 1997-2000.

MISSOURI WESTERN LAST WEEK
  • On Friday, the Griffons lost 2-1 to Fort Hays.
  • The Griffons picked up their third MIAA win on Sunday after scoring two straight goals to take down Nebraska Kearney 2-1.
 
SOUTHWEST BAPTIST LAST WEEK
  • The Bearcats fought back to tie Washburn 2-2 after falling down 2-0 in the first half.
  • On Sunday, the Bearcats allowed a goal in the 81st minute and lost to Emporia State 1-0.
 
MISSOURI SOUTHERN LAST WEEK
  • The Lions lost 2-1 in their game Friday against Emporia State.
  • Washburn shut out Missouri Southern on Sunday by a score of 3-0.
 
MISSOURI WESTERN NOTES
  • Cassidy Menke is third in the MIAA with 8 goals.
  • Missouri Western averages the third-most saves per game in the MIAA with 5.42.
  • The Griffons have scored 22 goals this season, which is fourth-best in the MIAA.
 
SOUTHWEST BAPTIST NOTES
  • The Bearcats have three players with two goals scored.
  • Southwest Baptist is allowing more goals than anyone in the conference at 2.8 per game.
