ST. JOSEPH – Griffon Soccer (10-4, 5-2 MIAA) returns home after playing its last four games on the road. Three of the Griffons' final four games are at home, beginning with Friday's matchup with Northeastern State. The Griffons enter this weekend's game with a three game winning streak after going 2-0 last weekend.
Madeline Cowell made program history in last week's win over Southwest Baptist. Cowell became the Griffons' all-time assists leader with her assist in Friday's win. Cowell came into this season tied for the record with 12 assists, but her 13
th career assists gives her sole possession of the record. Cowell totaled seven assists last season as a midfielder but has moved to defender to strengthen Missouri Western's back line.
5 THINGS TO WATCH
- Missouri Western has won three-straight and five of its last six games.
- Cassidy Menke is averaging .714 goals per game and is on pace to eclipse her career-best mark of 15 goals last season.
- Entering this weekend's games, Missouri Western is third in the MIAA and sits just one conference point back from Central Missouri for second.
- The Griffons defeated Central Oklahoma twice last season. Central Oklahoma's undefeated season has come after they went 7-10-2 in 2017.
- Missouri Western has been able to score enough goals without attempting many shots. The Griffons have not had more shots than their opponent in any of their last three wins.
MISSOURI WESTERN LAST WEEK
- The Griffons opened the weekend with a 3-1 win at Southwest Baptist on Friday.
- Anna Mayer earned her second career shutout as she and the Griffon defense shut out Missouri Southern for the 1-0 win.
NORTHEASTERN STATE LAST WEEK
- The RiverHawks tied Washburn 1-1 on Friday.
- Northeastern State earned its first MIAA win of the season in a 1-0 win over Emporia State.
CENTRAL OKLAHOMA LAST WEEK
- The Bronchos topped Washburn 2-1 on Friday.
- Central Oklahoma scored seven goals against Washburn on Sunday to remain undefeated on the season.
MISSOURI WESTERN NOTES
- Missouri Western is averaging 1.86 goals per game.
- Cassidy Menke is second in the MIAA with 10 goals.
