ST. JOSEPH – Missouri Western volleyball (7-8) host rival Northwest Missouri State (7-7) on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. in the MWSU Fieldhouse. It will be the first meeting for the rivals this season.
Home court advantage meant little last season between the rivals. The #18 Bearcats swept the Griffons in their first meeting on Oct. 4, 2016. MWSU returned the favor in Maryville, Missouri by beating #25 NWMSU 3-2. The Griffons have won seven of the last eight meetings and lead the all-time series 68-24.
LAST WEEK: The Griffons defeated Lindenwood, 3-1 on Friday, Sept. 22 and went 1-2 in the week's matchs.
Lauren Murphy paced the Missouri Western offense with 128 assists. In a win at Lindenwood, Murphy was able to set up three different Griffons with 11 kills or more in the match.
Ali Tauchen recorded double-doubles in two of the three matches last week. She had 16 digs and 14 kills against the Lions and 13 kills with 16 digs against #15 Central Missouri.
Stephanie Doak had 46 kills over the three matches.
Kayla Ruff had at least 21 digs in all three matches and averaged 5.67 digs per set during the week.
UP NEXT: Missouri Western stays at home on Friday, Sept. 29 for a 7 p.m. match against Missouri Southern. MWSU closes its three-match home stand on Saturday, Sept. 30 by hosting Southwest Baptist at 3 p.m.
