Soccer earns shot at postseason title

Griffons down Washburn 1-0 in MIAA semifinals


WARRENSBURG, Mo. - Griffon soccer (17-3) will get its second chance at an MIAA championship in a week after a 1-0 win over Washburn (10-9-1) in the MIAA Championship semifinals, Friday night.

Bridget Blessie sunk a header with 12 seconds left in the first half for her second game-winning goal against Washburn this year and her sixth of the season. The win setup a the third game between Missouri Western and Central Missouri this season. The No.1-ranked Jennies won each of the previous two matchups 2-0, including a win in St. Joseph last Sunday that clinched the outright MIAA regular season title for UCM. Sunday's championship game will be at 1 p.m. at Jennies Field.

Sarah Lyle had four saves in goal to gjve the Griffons their 13th shutout of the season. Missouri Western out-shot Washburn 21-13 and had seven corner kicks to none for Washburn.
