ST. JOSEPH – Griffon men's basketball begins the 2017-18 season with an exhibition game at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Missouri Western and Arkansas meet for just the second time and first time since 1972. The Razorbacks squeaked out a win, 85-81, in the previous meeting in Fayetteville.
Arkansas head coach Mike Anderson is familiar with the Griffons from his stint as the head coach at Missouri. MWSU and Mizzou played an exhibition on Nov. 8, 2007 in Columbia, Missouri.

MWSU was tabbed
14th in the MIAA preseason poll … nine letter winners are back from 2016-17 team … Missouri Western returns four of its top five top scorers from last season … The Griffons averaged 64.8 points per game and allowed 70.3 points per game in 2016-17 … This is the fourth consecutive season Missouri Western has played an exhibition against a team from a power five NCAA Division I conference … MWSU defeated Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, 49-44, in the last contest against a Division I opponent

Arkansas was picked sixth in the preseason SEC media poll … The Razorbacks return three of their top five scorers from 2016-17 … They averaged 79.3 points per game and allowed 73.9 points a game in 2016-17 … U of A was knocked out of the NCAA tournament in the second round by eventual national champion North Carolina … Arkansas beat fellow MIAA member Central Oklahoma 78-66 on Oct. 27
