JOSEPH, Mo. – Griffon Baseball will look to extend an eight-game winning streak, seven games in the MIAA, during a trip to Pittsburg, Kansas for a pair of doubleheaders this weekend. The series had originally been scheduled to start on Friday, but was rescheduled for two doubleheaders.
THE GRIFFONSMissouri Western enters the weekend sporting a 11-5 record and sit 7-1 in MIAA play after winning the last seven conference games and eight straight overall. Wednesday, the Griffons jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings against Quincy before downing the Hawks, 7-4.
Ryan Degner has a hit in 10-straight games and 14 of his 16 on the season. He leads the team with a .409 batting average, 27 hits, seven doubles, four triples and 20 runs scored. Newcomer
David Glaude is second on the team with his .393 average. The Canadian leads the squad with five home runs.
Mitch Thorman is batting .308 and has a team-high, 15 RBIs.
MWSU has scored 63 runs in its last five games, but the pitching staff has arguably been even more impressive. Heading to Pitt State, Griffon hurlers have a combined, 3.02 ERA.
Richard Peoples and A.J. Martinez are both 3-0.
Banks Born is 2-0 with a 0.89 ERA and
Grant Woods sits 1-0 with a 3ters with a 1.72 ERA. Martinez is second to Born among Griffon starters with a 1.66 ERA and his 20 strikeouts lead the staff.
PITTSBURG STATE GORILLASThe Gorillas have dropped their last seven games, including a 12-5 loss to Rockhurst on Wednesday. Pitt State has not won since a 7-5 victory at Northeastern State on Feb. 13.
Nate Arnold's .364 average is best on the team. Arnold's 16 hits are tied for the team lead and his 12 RBIs are the most of any Gorilla. Luke Bordewick has two home runs, the most on a team that has five total homers. As a team, Pittsburg State is batting .254.
