ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Griffon Women will try to snap a five-game losing streak Wednesday night when Central Missouri visits the fieldhouse. Former Missouri Western Women's coach, Dave Slifer brings his Jennies to town fresh off upseting No. 1 Emporia State and with a familiar face on his bench. Longtime Griffon Men's assistant coach, Mike Nicholson is in his first season as Slifer's top assistant. In addition to the game, free pizza will be provided to the first 100 students and four lucky fans will enter the cash machine for a chance to grab as much money as they can in a timed period, courtesy of Commerce Bank. 

THE GRIFFONS

Missouri Western continues to show a competitive spirit after facing three top-10 opponents in their last four games. Last time out MWSU hung with #5 Pittsburg State but eventually fell 81-71.

MWSU currently ranks 6th in the MIAA in scoring offense, averaging 72.6 points per game. The Griffons shoot a high percentage this season, making 44 percent of their shots. As a team, the Griffons continue to rebound well, averaging 38.7 rebounds per game and holding a margin of +5.9 per game.

LaQuinta Jefferson was named MIAA Player of the Week on Monday after 

averaging 29 points per game through her last three games. She currently leads the MIAA in points per game at 22.1. Sophomore guard Chelsea Dewey, currently ranks third in the MIAA in assists per game with 4.2. Griffon sharpshooter Sarafina Handy is now the MIAA leader in made three-pointers at 37 total on the season.

Central Missouri comes into the MWSU Fieldhouse after a thrilling one-point victory over #1 Emporia State on Saturday night. The Jennies hold an 11-4 overall record and 5-2 conference record. Central Missouri is coached by former women's head coach Dave Slifer. Longtime Griffon men's assistant coach Mike Nicholson is in his first year as Slifer's top assistant.

UCM allows an average of 60.5 points per game and puts up 66.6 points on the offensive end. The Jennies have recorded 9.5 steals per game this season, ranking them second in that category in the MIAA.

Central Missouri has four players averaging double-figures with Shelby Winkelmann posting 16.3 points per game. Three of those four players sit in the top-15 in the MIAA in shooting percentage, all over the 45 percent mark. Revonnia Howard is currently third in the conference in rebounds per game as she averages 9.3.

The Griffons built a 12 point lead in the first half but Central Missouri regained the lead with 10 minutes to play in the second half. Winkelmann led Central Missouri with 16 points while Flax added 16 to go with 13 rebounds for the double-double. Lewis ended with a game-high 18 points. Lockett had eight points and seven boards to pace the Griffons.

The Griffons hit the road with a trip to Southwest Baptist on Saturday. The teams return home Jan. 24 to take on Missouri Southern. That morning, Griffon Softball will host the Fitness Fun Fest in the Griffon Indoor Sports Complex. The annual event was formerly known as Zumba in the Room-ba.
