ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – After a tough opening week of MIAA play, Griffon Soccer returns to Spratt Stadium carrying a 3-2-1 overall record (0-1-1 MIAA).
Friday night, the Griffons host Central Oklahoma (4-2, 1-1 MIAA) at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Northeastern State comes to Spratt Stadium for a noon match with the Griffons. The RiverHawks currently sit 3-2 overall and 1-1 in MIAA play.

Last week, the Griffons played rival Northwest Missouri State to a one all draw, losing sophomore midfielder Bailey Dervin for the season in the course of the match. Tara Russell
netted her first goal of the season in the 32^nd minute to knot the teams at one goal each. Neither team managed another goal through two overtime periods.
Missouri Western then headed to St. Charles on Sunday to take on Lindenwood. Kirsten Crabtree's goal in the 42^nd minute was all the Lions needed to down MWSU 1-0. The Griffons kept pace offensively but couldn't find the back of the net. In goal, Sarah Lyle continued her standout season, finishing with six saves.

Nine different players have accumulated all the Griffon goals this season with a new, and improved offensive system. Tara Russell leads the team and the MIAA with 21 shots and 13 on goal. Russell is tied with K.C. Ramsell and Brittany Mueller for the most points on the squad (3).

Goalie Sarah Lyle has presented an opposing presence for opponents. Lyle has 29 saves and just four goals against on her way to a 3-2-1 record in goal for the Griffons. Lyle leads the MIAA with an .879 save percentage. She's second with a 0.63 goals against average and is tied for fifth with 29 saves. Her three shutouts leave her tied for second in the MIAA.

As a team, the Griffons are second in the MIAA with 98 shots, averaging over 16 per match. Missouri Western leads the MIAA with 42 corners this season, for an average of seven per contest. Lyle has helped the Griffons to the second best goals against average in the MIAA (0.63).

THE BRONCHOS
Central Oklahoma topped Northeastern State 2-0 and fell 4-1 to Southwest Bapti st last week. Gabi Bochus leads the team with four goals. Brandi Bartley is 3-1 with 15 saves, giving up three goals in four matches started. Elle Stover is 1-1 with 10 saves and five goals against in her two starts in goal.

THE RIVERHAWKS
Northeastern State is coming off  a home loss to Central Oklahoma and a 2-0 defeat of Missouri Southern last week. Melissa Giles and McKenzie Musella each have two goals for the RiverHawks. No other player has tallied more than one. Jordan Woodruff is 3-2 with 29 saves and seven goals against.
