The Griffons enter the tournament as the six seed and have a chance for redemption against the third seeded Tigers. Fort Hays snapped the Griffons, record, five game winning streak with a 1-0 win on Oct. 19 in Hays, Kansas.
Scouting the Griffons – Offensively, the Griffons continue to push the pace averaging 13.22 shots per game landing them sixth in the MIAA.
Tara Russell leads the way with four goals and two assist this season followed by
K.C. Ramsell with three goals and one assist.
Sydney Andrews and
Bridget Blessie have each put two in the back of the net to help the Griffons this season. The focal point of the team has been the defense for MWSU.
Sarah Lyle has recorded eight shutouts this season which is good enough for third in the MIAA. She has tallied 75 saves over the year with a save percentage of .824 and has allowed only 0.85 goals per game average.
It's been a record breaking season for the team with
over 20 records tied or broken. The squad's 9-8-1 record is the best in program history and head coach
Chad Edwards became the all-time wins leader earlier this season.
Scouting the Tigers – FHSU currently ranks third in the MIAA in shots per game averaging 14.39 and points per game with 5.17. The Tigers have averaged 1.78 goals per game and have allowed an average of 0.67 goals per game. Hailey Davey and Kelsey Steffens lead the way for the offense and have accumulated for 12 goals and 15 assist together. Fort Hays has four other individuals that have scored at least three goals or more this season as well. At goalie for the Tigers, Kristen Thompson has allowed 12 goals this season and saved a total of 73 shots. She is tied for first in the MIAA with 10 shut outs and post a 0.64 goals against average.
MIAA TournamentShould Missouri Western win Wednesday, they would face the winner of Emporia State (7) at Southwest Baptist (2) on Friday at the College Boulevard Activities Complex in Olathe, Kansas at 7 p.m. The Griffons claimed 1-0 victories over both squads during their five-game win streak earlier this season.
