ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Winners of 11 of their last 12 matches, Griffon Volleyball continues a record pace as they vie for the MIAA crown with three straight home contests ahead.

The Griffons are fresh off completing a regular season sweep of No. 5 Washburn. It's the first time since 2000, MWSU has claimed two wins in a season over the Ichabods. The team is now in a three-way tie for first place in the MIAA and has matched the most wins in a season for the program since 2005. Their 17-4 overall record is the program's best record through the first 21 matches since 1987.

Missouri Western will host Missouri Southern and Central Oklahoma on homecoming weekend. The Griffons already hold wins over both of this weekend's opponents.

The Griffons
It's hard to establish exactly what is behind the Griffons success in 2014 but offense has been a big part of it. The Griffons .253 hitting percentage is second in the MIAA and their 1,101 kills are the most in the conference, though they sit third with a 13.94 per set average. Jessie Thorup sits fifth in the MIAA with 3.7 kills per set. Her 292 kills are tied for the most in the conference this season and she sits eighth in the MIAA with a .306 hitting percentage. Erica Rottinghaus had tallied 271 kills this year and sits ninth in the MIAA with 3.43 per set.

Of course, those kills come from somewhere and nearly all of the Griffons have come from Jordan Chohon. She leads the Griffons and the MIAA with 916 total assists and is second in the league with 11.59 per set. Most of Chohon's assists have come from hits by Sarah Faubel. She leads the team with 297 digs and became the program's all-time leader in that category earlier this year.

Missouri Southern
The Lions come to St. Joseph looking to improve off a 3-0 loss to MWSU earlier in the season. They are hitting .132 as a team, led by Callie Whetstone's .254 hitting percentage. Katie Politte leads the team with 152 kills. Abby Finder is the Lions primary setter. She leads the team with 721 assists and Katie Wiele's 304 digs are tops on the Missouri Southern squad.

Central Oklahoma
The Bronchos have lost three more matches since suffering their first defeat of the season at the hands of the Griffons on Sept. 27. Central Oklahoma is hitting .253 as a team, while holding opponents to a .132 hitting percentage. They're led offensively by Barbara Jackson's 305 kills. Allison Barr is second on the team with 180 but leads the squad with a .369 hitting percentage. Whitney Gifford has 469 digs to lead the team, while Katy Davis' 961 assists are the most of any Broncho.

Pink Week
In conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness month, Griffon Athletics will be hosting the 6th Annual Pink Week October 24-31.
 
At the home volleyball & soccer games during this time, Pink Week t-shirts will be sold for the cost of a donation (minimum $5.00 or more is suggested).   Pink ribbons will also be sold for $1.00 with all of the proceeds being donated to the Heartland Auxiliary Breast Center at Heartland Regional Medical Center with this year's goal being set at $2500.
 
Through the first five years of Pink Week, over $6,000 has been raised toward this great cause.  Admission to Griffon Volleyball games are $6.00 for adults and $2.00 youth with children 6 and under being admitted FREE.  Tickets are available at gogriffons.com or may be purchased 90 minutes prior to the game at the box office.
