ST. JOSEPH, Mo., - Winners of six consecutive games, the Missouri Western (27-11, 20-8) baseball team heads to Kirksivlle to wrap up a long road trip against Truman State (12-24, 11-21). The Griffons used an impressive four-game sweep at Pittsburg State last weekend to build a four-game advantage in the MIAA standings. Western in second place ahead of Emporia State and Washburn, who are tied for third.
 
For his part in the Griffons' 6-0 week, Grant Fink was named MIAA Hitter of the Week. After an offensive explosion in Pittsburg (57 runs over four games), the Griffon offense looks to continue its hot streak. The combined run total was the most a Western team has scored in a four game series since at least 2000. Western's pitching staff also did its part against the Gorillas, allowing 13 runs in the series.
 
The Griffons improved their team batting average by nearly 30 points to .301. Spencer Shockley continues to lead the team with his .370 average. Western belted 12 homers in the Pitt series, and now has 31 as a team. Grant Fink hit four home run s himself and now is tied for the team lead with Nate Ramler (7).
 
At the top of Western's rotation, Brandon Simmons is 8-2 and leads the Griffons with his 1.73 era. Nik Jurado's record remains without a blemish (6-0) and his 2.01 era is good for second on the team. Oliver Kadey has appeared to wrap up the number four spot in the rotation and is now 2-1 with a 5.20 era.
 
With two remaining series in the MIAA, Western looks to hold on to its second place standing, which would be the team's highest ever finish in the conference standings. The Griffons remained outside the national rankings, receiving four votes for the Collegiate Baseball Poll this week.
