WESTERN FALLS 3-1 AGAINST 12TH RANKED JENNIES

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western played hard but gave up two second half goals falling 3-1 against the 12th ranked Jennies of Central Missouri. Western had three shots in the contest falling to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in MIAA action.

Despite being outshot by 21 shots (22-1) in the first frame the Griffons were able to play even soccer with the high powered Jennies. Central Missouri got on the board first in the fourth minute of action when Becky Lackey took a rebound from one yard out and put it past Griffon goalie Kelley Voigts.

Western continued to battle and in the 17th minute Teddie Serna put a ball into the lower right hand corner for her first career goal tying the score at one. The rest of the way would be all Jennies as Voigts did a great job keeping them from going ahead recording seven saves in the first period.

The Jennies had eight shots on goal with Stanley and Lackey recording four shots apiece. The Jennies also had five corner kicks to the Griffons zero.

The Jennies kept up the pressure in the second half scoring two goals. The Jennies scored the go ahead goal in the 57th minute when Stanley took a Kristin Bright pass and put it past Voigts. Thirteen minutes last they went up by two when Alyssa Rhodes scored her fifth goal of the season off a Kayla Shain assist. The Jennies improve to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in MIAA action.

Serna, Ashlyn Castillo and Brooke English all had shot for Western with Serna and English each getting one on goal. Voigts made 14 saves falling to 3-4 on the season.

The Jennies had 39 shots with 17 on goal. Stanley had seven shots with three on goal. The Jennies had eight corner kicks while both teams had five fouls.

The Griffons return to MIAA action on Tuesday, October 4 with a road trip to Kirksville, Mo. to take on the Truman State Bulldogs. Game time is set for 3:00 pm from the TSU soccer field.
