Ascending through the local volleyball scene in a hurry,
Ami Dias is coming home to serve as Griffon Volleyball's new assistant coach.
Dias joins Assistant Coach
Izzy Enna to round out MWSU's staff. Dias graduated from Central High School in St. Joe in 2018, going on to play college ball at Johnson County Community College from 2018-2020. Playing 59 total matches as a setter for the Cavaliers, Dias eventually joined MWSU during the elongated 2020-21 season.
Working as a coach for Southland Volleyball Club from 2019 onwards, Dias also made time for the St. Joseph Storm Volleyball Club, coaching the team from 2021-23. Now that Dias is a 2023 Griffon graduate with a Bachelor of General Studies with a concentration in Health and Exercise Science and Wellness, Fey can't wait to see what the hometown player-turned-coach does next.
During her time at JCCC, Dias tallied 460 assists and gathered 219 digs. On top of her own achievements, the former First Team News-Press All-City selection is no stranger to team success. After helping the 2017 Central volleyball team to a 22-8-2 record, Dias got another dose of elation in 2018, joining JCCC in its third-place finish at the NJCAA DII Tournament.
Dias will be coaching student-athletes she played with back in 2020-21, such as
Danielle Moje and
Jessica Hendrix, giving her a natural connection with the roster. She also knows the squad exceptionally well already thanks to her time working as the team's libero tracker on game days in 2022 at the scorer's table alongside her mother, Roberta.
