LaShawn Jones

Jones finished her second season with the Griffons as a graduate assistant by helping Missouri Western qualify for its second straight MIAA Tournament and winning 20 games for back-to-back season for the first in over a decade. 2016-17 saw MWSU knock off nationally ranked Central Oklahoma, Fort Hays State and Emporia State. Chelsea Dewey earned first team All-MIAA, making it consecutive years a Griffon was selected first team as two others were tabbed on All-MIAA teams. Dewey finished the season ranked nationally in Division II for Assist/Turnover ratio.

In her first season at Missouri Western, Jones was part of a coaching staff that led the Griffon Women's Basketball program back to a winning tradition established in the 90s. The 2015-16 team claimed the program's first MIAA Regular Season Championship since 2002. The Griffons also qualified for the NCAA Central Regional for the first time since 2004. Along the way, the team broke program marks by winning its first 18 games and winning an MIAA record, 20 conference games. LaQuinta Jefferson was named MIAA Player of the Year and was named to two All-American teams. Four Griffons were named All-MIAA. 

Prior to coming to MWSU, Jones played basketball at Oklahoma St. University under Jim Littell. She appeared in three NCAA tournament appearances from 2013-2015. OSU made the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2014. She was also apart of the Oklahoma State WNIT Championship team in 2011-12. Jones was selected as an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in 2015.

Jones was on the Dean’s Honor Roll in 2014 and 2015. She also was on the Big Xll All-Academic second team in 2014 and earned Big XII All-Academic first team in 2015.

She has also worked both elite and junior camps throughout her four years at OSU.

She earned a major in Sociology and minored in Psychology at OSU. Jones will be working towards her Masters in Sports & Fitness Management at MWSU
