Scott Groner

Assistant Director of Facilities / Equipment Manager

A man who wears many hats, Scott Groner begins his fourth season as a member of the Griffon football coaching staff in 2018.

The former Griffon punter transitioned into assistant director of facilities, equipment manager and specialists coach at Missouri Western one season after his final as a student-athlete. Groner has helped MWSU specialists retain the mantle as some of the best in the MIAA. Groner helped Tyler Basch to a career-best 2017 season that saw the place kicker earn second team All-MIAA honors after leading the conference with 17 made field goals. Basch also finished the 2017 season, connecting on 10-straight field goal attempts.

Basch became Groner’s second pupil to earn All-MIAA honors. Matthew Vincent was the third team punter in 2015 after leading the MIAA with 21 punts downed inside the 20-yard line.

Having never played American football prior to 2011, Groner was transformed into a record breaking, All-American punter. The Australian holds Griffon records for career punt yards, average per punt in his career and the highest per punt average in a season, breaking that record in 2011. He was a three-time All-American selection and was twice named first team All-MIAA.

Groner also serves as the team equipment manager, in addition to his duties as assistant director of facilities. Groner graduated from MWSU in the winter of 2014 with a bachelor’s in health and exercise science. He is originally from Tecoma, Victoria, Australia.
