After returning to his alma mater to become a college football coach in 2017, Scorpio Horn begins his third season as the defensive line coach at Missouri Western.
 
2018
Horn’s defensive line wreaked havoc on opposing offenses last season, ranking third in the MIAA in sacks (22) and totaling 59 tackles for loss. The Griffons ranked second in the MIAA in rush defense (130.8) and 43rd in the nation. The defensive line helped Missouri Western rank second in the MIAA with 22 turnovers gained, including eight recovered fumbles which was sixth best in the MIAA.
 
Tyler Baska had a breakout season, earning third team All-MIAA honors as a sophomore with 51 total tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks from his defensive tackle position. Horn’s other starting interior lineman, Kyle Dumler, received All-MIAA honorable mention. As a pro liaison, Horn helped another Griffon join the NFL ranks as his nephew, Joe Horn Jr. (WR) signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Baltimore Ravens.
 
2017
Horn helped several Griffon defensive linemen to career seasons in 2017, including second eam defensive end Darrian Bass. Under Horn’s guidance, Bass finished second among MIAA defensive linemen with 7.5 sacks, the most in his career. Bass was third in the MIAA and second on the team with 16.5 tackles for loss before receiving a mini-camp invitation from the New York Jets. 

Nate Iloilo earned honorable mention All-MIAA status in his first year as a Griffon, finishing third on the team with 10.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. Iloilo also blocked four kicks in 2017. Kyle Dumler also enjoyed a career-best year in 2017, finishing with 37 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. Cale Cornman showed flashes of promise with 26 total tackles, two tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. Justin Lovelace turned in 19 total tackles, two passes defended and nine quarterback hurries in his first season seeing significant playing time. 
 
Prior to Missouri Western
Prior to joining the Missouri Western staff, Horn was head coach at William Chrisman High School in Independence, Missouri, for three seasons (2014-16). Prior to becoming head coach at William Chrisman, Horn was defensive coordinator at Park Hill High School from 2009-13. 
 
Personal
The four-year letter winner on the defensive and offensive lines at Missouri Western also worked as a business teacher in the Independence School District, an at-risk coordinator in the Independence School District and as a loan coordinator with the Metropolitan Community Colleges. 

Horn earned his Bachelor’s in Business Administration from MWSU in 2005 before earning a Master of Arts and Teaching from Central Missouri University in 2016.
