Chet Pobolish enters his first season with Griffon football and will serve as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Prior to MWSU, Pobolish served as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at Division I Southeastern Louisiana University. As the offensive coordinator, he guided the Lions to the 2014 Southland Conference Championship and one of the best offensive seasons in FCS. The Lions led the NCAA in yards per completion at 17.4 that season and ranked first in the Southland Conference in eight different offensive categories. Quarterback Bryan Bennett was tabbed as an All-American and Conference Player of the Year that season as well.
Before being the offensive coordinator, Pobolish served as the wide receivers coach and special teams coordinator for the Lions. Under his guidance, SLU led the Southland Conference twice in Kickoff Return Yards with five returns going for touchdowns. Three players were named All-Southland as Xavier Roberson earned All-American honors under Pobolish’s coaching. In 2013, Southeastern Louisiana won the Southland Conference and advanced to the NCAA FCS quarterfinals.
Chet also coached wide receivers and was the Special Teams Coordinator at Delta State for five seasons. He helped DSU to a 2010 NCAA Division II runner-up finish along with four NCAA Playoff appearances and Gulf South Conference titles. With the Statesmen, he guided 12 players to break school records and seven receivers finished with more than 60 receptions.
Pobolish began his coaching career as the wide receivers coach at Emporia State University. The Hornets had six players set school records with one player being named a Harlon Hill finalist and two All-Americans in his five seasons in Emporia. ESU won the MIAA and qualified for NCAA Playoffs in 2003.
As a student-athlete at Emporia State, Pobolish was a four-time All-MIAA wide receiver and three-time captain. In 1996, he set a NCAA Division II record with quarterback Brian Shay for the most All-Purpose yards by two players on the same team. Chet graduated from Emporia State with a Bachelor’s degree of Integrated Studies in 2000.
Pobolish and his wife, Holly, reside in St. Joseph with their daughter Lauran.
