JOPLIN, Mo. – Griffon Women's Golf opened the MSSU Fall Invitational on Monday at Twin Hills Country Club, finishing the first round in sixth place with a team score of 320 (+32).
Avery Wells led the Griffon lineup in the opening round, carding a 6-over 78 to sit tied for 17th. Wells made the turn at 5-over with a 41 on the front nine before closing strong with a 1-over 37 on the back nine.
Makenna Casey followed one stroke behind with a 7-over 79, placing her tied for 21st. Abby Owens finished her opening round at 9-over 81 and sits tied for 27th, while Raleigh Puzio posted a 10-over 82 to sit tied for 34th.
Cydney Beckmann rounded out the Griffon lineup with a 16-over 88 and is tied for 46th.
Competing as an individual, Emma Spurlin matched Wells for the lowest Griffon round of the day with a 6-over 78, placing her tied for 17th. Spurlin shot matching 39s on the front and back nine.
Washburn leads the nine-team field after an opening-round 287 (-1), while Arkansas Tech sits second at 297 (+9). MoWest is one stroke behind fifth-place Rockhurst and nine strokes back of fourth-place Missouri Southern.
