ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – No. 10 Griffon Volleyball finished Friday with a pair of straight-set victories at the Holiday Inn Express Griffon Volleyball Invitational, defeating Arkansas Tech in the morning before closing the day with a 3-0 win over Illinois Springfield inside the MWSU Fieldhouse.
Match One: MoWest 3, Arkansas Tech 0
MoWest improved to 8-1 on the season with the 25-17, 25-13, 25-17 win. The Griffons finished the match with 38 kills while hitting .269 and held Arkansas Tech to a .065 hitting percentage.
Holly Heldt led the Griffon attack with eight kills while adding eight digs and four service aces.
Tanith Roush and
Mackenzie Peters each finished with six kills, with Peters hitting .625 on eight attacks.
Noelle Sutcliffe also recorded six kills while
Taylor Russell and
Brooklyn Gormley added five apiece.
Emma Duff directed the offense with 19 assists and a match-high five service aces, while
Katelyn Diani-O'Day added 14 assists.
Anna Weberg led the defensive effort with 11 digs as the Griffons finished with 44 digs and six total blocks.
MoWest hit .237 in the opening set before raising that mark to .385 in the second. The Griffons closed out the match in three sets to earn their eighth victory of the season.
Match Two: MoWest 3, Illinois-Springfield 0
MoWest improved to 9-1 on the season after defeating Illinois Springfield 25-14, 25-16, 25-17. The Griffons totaled 42 kills while hitting .265 and held UIS to a .066 hitting percentage.
Taylor Russell and
Tanith Roush led the Griffon attack with nine kills apiece. Russell hit .474 without an attack error, while Roush added four block assists.
Noelle Sutcliffe finished with eight kills, while
Mackenzie Peters added six kills on a .600 hitting percentage.
Anna Weberg led the defensive effort with 22 digs and added two service aces.
Holly Heldt collected 16 digs, while
Katelyn Diani-O'Day finished with 14 assists and 10 digs.
Emma Duff led MoWest with 19 assists.
The Griffons were especially efficient in the opening set, hitting .400 with 13 kills and just three errors. MoWest finished the match with 65 digs and 13 total blocks, including six block assists each from Peters and
Brooklyn Gormley.
