No. 40 Griffons take care of business at Emporia State, program history on the line Wednesday

EMPORIA, Kan. – No. 40 Griffon Tennis (16-3, 7-1 MIAA) took care of business Saturday, earning a 6-1 win over Emporia State (8-9, 2-4 MIAA).

The victory puts the Griffons in position to claim a share of the MIAA regular season championship on Wednesday at No. 42 Northwest Missouri State. With a win over the Bearcats, MWSU would secure a share of the title for the first time in program history.

The Griffons claimed the doubles point by winning two of three matches. The No. 2 team of Johanna Priedite and Cristina Granero Boj picked up a 6-4 victory, while Claudia Pastor and Mila Larrieu matched that score at No. 3 to give MoWest an early 1-0 lead.

In singles, MoWest controlled the match, winning five of six contests. Jevrosima Mitic and Granero Boj each earned straight-set wins at No. 2 and No. 3, while Alejandra Ramirez Botella bounced back from a first-set loss to win in three sets at No. 4.

At No. 1, Priedite battled through a tight three-set match, clinching the point with a 10-8 tiebreak win in the final set. Ella Gates added another point at No. 6 with a straight-set victory to round out the scoring.

Emporia State's lone point came at No. 5 singles.

What's Next
The Griffons travel to Maryville, Missouri, on Wednesday, April 22 for a 3 p.m. matchup at No. 42 Northwest Missouri State, where a win would secure a share of the MIAA regular season championship and mark the first in program history.
