ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Griffon Baseball (20-17, 14-11 MIAA) extended its current winning streak to five games with an 18-7 win over Rockhurst in seven innings Friday at Griffon Park.
MoWest, winners in 10 of its last 11 games and 12 of its last 15 overall, led 15-0 after the fourth inning. Rockhurst (23-11, 11-9 GLVC) scored six of its runs in the top of the fifth, but the Griffons scored three runs in the home half of the fifth to re-extend their lead and ultimately win via run rule.
The Griffons notched 17 hits led by Micah Kobuszewki, who was 4-for-5 with a season-best five runs scored and two RBI. He also tripled for a second game in a row.
Jordan Austin went 3-for-3 with a season-best four runs scored. He walked twice and drove in a run.
Miguel Cantu was 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI.
David De Hoyos was 2-for-3 with a team-best five RBI.
Issac Huettl was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs, including a solo home run - his first as a Griffon.
Ben Waliczek tacked on a trio of runs, going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Cam Saleh (2-2) made the start and got the win, going 4.2 innings and striking out a season-best six. He was charged with four earned runs.
Cole Evans tossed the last 2.1 innings in relief, striking out three and walking one.
MoWest will travel to Kansas City to face Rockhurst on Sunday. First pitch from Loyola Park Baseball Field is set for 1 p.m. The game will be streamed on the GLVC Sports Network (GLVCSN.com).
