Tennis downs Minnesota State 6-1

KEARNEY, Neb. – Griffon Tennis (4-2) picked up a 6-1 victory against Minnesota State (4-2) on Sunday morning, taking the doubles point and winning five of the six singles contests.

MoWest took the early lead by capturing the doubles point despite falling at No. 1 doubles 6-2. The Griffons responded with commanding performances at the other two positions. Johanna Priedite and Claudia Pastor rolled to a 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Mila Larrieu and Cristina Granero Boj secured a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles to give MWSU the 1-0 advantage.

The Griffons carried that momentum into singles play, winning five matches to pull away for the team victory.

Johanna Priedite battled to a 6-3, 2-6, 10-6 win at No. 1 singles in a third-set tiebreak. Cristina Granero Boj added a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles, winning 6-1, 6-3.

Claudia Pastor continued the strong day for the Griffons with a 6-3, 7-6(6) win at No. 3 singles. Alejandra Ramirez Botella earned another point at No. 5 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

Mila Larrieu capped the match with a dominant 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles as MWSU secured the 6-1 team win.

What's Next
Griffon Tennis returns to St. Joseph for a pair of home matches, starting Thursday, March 12, against Southwest Baptist at 12 p.m. The Griffons will then host Ouachita Baptist on Friday, March 13, with first serve set for 12 p.m.
