Griffon Baseball wins in walk-off fashion over Golden Bears, 9–8

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Griffon Baseball (2–4) continued its home-opening series against Concordia–St. Paul (1–2) on Saturday at the MWSU Spring Sports Complex, where the Griffons completed a dramatic comeback with a 9–8 walk-off victory on a sacrifice fly by Jordan Austin in the bottom of the ninth.

The Griffons struck first in the opening inning as Luke Parmentier brought home Austin with a sacrifice fly before Miguel Cantu grounded out to third to score another run, giving MWSU an early 2–0 lead.

Concordia responded with four runs in the fourth inning to take a 4–2 advantage, but the Griffons answered in the bottom half of the frame. Ben Waliczek singled to left to drive in a run, and another scored later in the inning on an error to tie the game at 4–4.

The Golden Bears regained the lead in the fifth with two runs to go ahead 6–4. MWSU trimmed the deficit in the seventh when Jack Mausser singled through the right side to plate a run.

Both teams traded runs in the eighth inning. Concordia scored two before the Griffons answered with three in the bottom half, scoring on a balk, an RBI single by Micah Kobuszewski, and a run coming home on a wild pitch to tie the game at 8–8.

In the bottom of the ninth, Issac Sobieszczyk reached on an error and went to second on a wild pitch to get into scoring position. A bunt single moved him to third before Austin ended it with a walk-off sacrifice fly.

What's Next
MWSU wraps up its home-opening series on Sunday, Feb. 8, hosting the CSP Golden Bears at MWSU Spring Sports Complex with first pitch set for 12 p.m.
