Cole Evans Named NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week

DALLAS, Texas – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) announced its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week for the week ending February 8, 2026, and Griffon Baseball junior right-hander Cole Evans has been selected as the National Pitcher of the Week.

The Lake Saint Louis, Missouri native wasted no time making his presence felt in his second start with MoWest, delivering a dominant complete-game shutout in a 7-0 win over Concordia–St. Paul during the Griffons' home-opening series. The junior transfer was in full control throughout, facing just 27 batters and holding opponents to a .037 batting average on the week. His efficient and commanding outing secured the victory and stood as one of the most impressive performances of the early season.

In addition to the national honor, Evans earned NCBWA Central Region Pitcher of the Week recognition on Wednesday and was previously named MIAA Pitcher of the Week for week two of the season, continuing a strong start to his Griffon career.

Evans and Griffon Baseball remain at home this weekend to host St. Cloud State for a three-game series at the MWSU Spring Sports Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, followed by a 1 p.m. start Saturday and a noon finale Sunday in St. Joseph.
