Lacrosse falls to No. 1 seed Maryville in GLVC tournament semifinals

Griffons end season in postseason tournament for third straight year.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Missouri Western lacrosse (9-8) saw its season end in the GLVC tournament semifinals, falling to No. 1 seed Maryville 16-3 on Friday at the Maryville Athletic Complex in St. Louis.

The Griffons fell behind 8-2 at halftime and never recovered, having been shut out in the third quarter.

Maryville fired off 37 shots to just 12 by Missouri Western. The Saints also held the Griffs to just seven shots-on-goal.

Missouri Western was also hindered by 25 turnovers. While Maryville cashed in 7-of-11 free position attempts, Missouri Western was just 1-of-3.

In the final game of her record-breaking career, Sam Pruitt scored two goals on four shots-on-goal. She finishes as the all-time leader in program history in goals scored (178), career assists (70) and career points (248).

Ryann Durrett scored the other goal Friday. Jordan Porter led the way in three categories with four draw controls, four groundballs and three caused turnovers.

Maleah Sosa finished with an assist and two draw controls. Ava Garaway made 11 saves in cage.

Along with Pruitt, fellow seniors Tonesty Burt, Chasity Rice, Ally Cisneros, Grace Williams and Jazmine Servance played in their final career game Friday.

Missouri Western ended its season in the GLVC tournament for a third year in a row – a tournament field in which only four teams qualify.

The Griffons also secured their third straight winning season in only its fifth total season of fielding a team.
