JOPLIN, Mo. – Missouri Western softball (21-16, 8-8 MIAA) split a doubleheader at Missouri Southern Monday, dropping the first game 6-0 and winning the second 4-1 at the Pat Lipira Softball Complex in Joplin.
Missouri Western continues MIAA play on Tuesday, going to No. 23 Pittsburg State. Those games start at 1 and 3 p.m.
Game 1: Missouri Southern 6 Missouri Western 0
Missouri Western was held to just two hits by Southern pitcher Kiki Pickens, who struck out seven in a complete game shutout.
Sydney Rader (15-6) took the loss in five innings, allowing six earned runs. She struck out three and walked one.
Game 2: Missouri Western 4 Missouri Southern 1
Harley Pruetting (3-5) tossed her third complete game of the season, holding Missouri Southern to just four hits. She struck out six and walked three, allowing just one earned run.
Taylor Jones led the way offensively, going 3-for-4 with 2 RBI.
Ella Fitzpatrick went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
