Baseball falls to No. 17 Pittsburg State on Senior Day

The Gorillas took the series finale on Sunday, 8-1

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Griffon Baseball (13-31, 11-22 MIAA) struggled offensively in the 8-1 finale loss to No. 17 Pittsburg State (36-9, 24-9 MIAA) on Sunday afternoon at the Spring Sports Complex.

Logan Winkelman (1-4) put together a solid performance with two strikeouts in his 11th start of the season. Despite allowing zero earned runs, the Foley, Minnesota, native was charged with the loss. Pitt State's Cadyn Castellanos (3-2) earned the win, allowing one earned run over 6.2 innings.

Errors by the Griffons' defense contributed to the Gorillas striking first, scoring three unearned runs in the second inning. Pitt added another three-run inning in the seventh, highlighted by Hayden Dyer's RBI double to help secure a seven-run victory at Griffon Park.

Missouri Western's lone run came in the seventh inning from an RBI single by senior Blake Anderson that drove in fellow senior Quinton Robertson.

As a team, MWSU totaled five hits and left 11 runners on base. Junior Frank Gall had a standout performance, going 2-for-2 with a walk, while both Robertson and senior Tyson Gerdes each added a double. Pitt State recorded eight hits and left seven runners on base.

Following the game, Kaden Doan, Tyson Gerdes, Blake Anderson, Rogelio Berumen, Quinton Robertson, Quinn Gundelfinger, Anthony Taggart, Jon Stanley and Gunnar Nartker were recognized on Senior Day.

Missouri Western will aim to keep its season alive with a critical three-game series against Central Oklahoma, starting Thursday at 5:00 p.m. in Edmond. The Griffs dropped to 11th place in the MIAA standings following Northeastern State's upset victory over No. 3 Central Missouri this afternoon.
