ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western tennis (4-12, 1-8 MIAA) fell in their regular season finale to No. 37 Northwest Missouri State, 5-2 on Wednesday.
The match started outdoors at the Noyes Tennis Courts before being moved indoors to the Genesis Health Club due to weather.
It was also a Senior Day match for Missouri Western's
Ellie Messenger, who was honored by the team at the conclusion of the match.
A four-year member of Griffon Tennis, Messenger has been a part of a historic turnaround for the program, helping the Griffons capture a Central Region title in 2023 and the team's first MIAA tournament title in 2024.
The Bearcats, winners of the MIAA regular season title, swept all three doubles matches and claimed wins in No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
Cristina Granero Boj claimed her 12
th win of the season and her fourth in a row in No. 1 singles, defeating Northwest's Marielena Muench 6-2, 6-4.
Celia Castaño Malnero claimed a win in No. 3 singles, going 6-3, 4-6 and 6-2 against Polina Gontaryk.
