Baseball falls at Emporia State in series finale Tuesday

Hornets take two out of three in the series from MWSU.

EMPORIA, Kan. – Missouri Western baseball (12-25, 10-16 MIAA) took a 9-2 loss at Emporia State Tuesday night in a season series finale played at Turnbull Field.

The Hornets won the series rubber match and stopped a season best four-game winning streak for the Griffons.

Missouri Western put up their only runs in the top of the first inning to grab an early 2-0 lead. Kaden Doan had a sac fly and then Carson Shear walked into bases loaded.

Emporia hit right back with four runs in the bottom of the frame, and the Hornets never looked back, tacking on a run in the fourth, three in the sixth and one more in the seventh.

Doan and Diego Rodriguez each had a pair of hits to lead Missouri Western offensively. Doan and Quinton Robertson each had a double.

Micah Diamond (0-1) made the start and took the loss in two innings, giving up four earned runs and three walks. He also struck out two. Gunnar Nartker tossed the last 1.2 innings of the game, allowing no hits and striking out two.

Missouri Western resumes conference play on the road when they head to Claremore, Oklahoma to open a three-game series at Rogers State.

First pitch on Thursday is set for 12:30 p.m.
