Baseball walked off in finale at Fort Hays State

FHSU scored the winning run in the ninth to secure game three

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Missouri Western baseball (1-13, 0-6 MIAA) suffered a tough 3-2 loss to the Fort Hays State Tigers (11-4, 6-0 MIAA) in the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon at Larks Park.

Same as yesterday, the Tigers took an early 2-0 lead after scoring a pair of runs in the second inning. Western responded in the sixth with its first run, after Anthony Taggart drove in Quinn Gundelfinger, who had led off the inning with a double.

The ninth inning was thrilling. In the top of the ninth, Taggart scored the tying run thanks to a sacrifice bunt by Rogelio Berumen. However, in the bottom of the ninth, with runners in scoring position and only one out, the Tigers took advantage of an error by the Griffons to clinch a one-run victory.

Senior Gunnar Nartker picked up a no-decision in his fourth start of the season. He collected a strikeout in 5.0 innings of work. Josh Nolte provided 2.0 scoreless innings in relief, and Jacob Ross (0-1) was charged with the loss.

Weather permitting, Missouri Western will compete against Benedictine (Kan.) in the Doug Minnis Charity Game next Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. at Griffon Park. For more information and updates, visit https://gogriffons.com/sports/baseball/schedule.
