ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Kids rule.
The Missouri Western Baseball team will host its annual FREE youth baseball clinic this spring with a new twist.
The two day event, now known as the Walden Family Junior Griffon Baseball Clinic, will take place Saturday, March 29 and Sunday, March 30.
The clinic - a decades-long MWSU tradition - is now named in memory of Keith Walden, a long-time Griffon baseball supporter, who passed away in 2023. Keith's son, George Walden, is a Western baseball alum and Keith was a supporter of the youth clinic for more than 20 years. After Keith's passing in November of 2023, his family - in lieu of flowers- requested donations to be made to the Griffon baseball program.
Mr. Walden's MWSU legacy will now and forever be tied to one of his favorite causes.
"We have such a tremendous history and lineage with our baseball program," said Damian Stambersky, just the third head baseball coach in MWSU's 56-year history.
"Mr. Walden was such a great supporter of our youth clinic over the years. Honoring his memory this way is a poignant tribute and something we take great pride in."
The Walden Family Junior Griffon Baseball Clinic is free and open to community youth from ages 6-12. Kids will team up with Griffon baseball players for exercises, drills and games. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Participants will receive a free Griffon Baseball t-shirt.
