Pruitt secures 200th career point in bounce back win over CSP

MWSU used a strong second half to down the Golden Bears

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Senior Sam Pruitt's five-point outing helped the Griffons (3-3) get back on track in the 12-5 win over Concordia-St. Paul (4-3) on a windy Friday afternoon at Spratt Stadium.

With her goal in the second quarter, Pruitt put the Griffons ahead 4-2 and surpassed the 200 career point milestone in the process. The native of Ellisville finished the game with five points, scoring four goals and providing one assist.

Missouri Western led the low-scoring contest against the Golden Bears with a narrow 5-3 advantage at halftime.

Shortly after the start of the second half, the game was delayed due to lightning. CSP quickly gained momentum, tying the game at 5-5 with a goal from Maddie Westberg. However, the Griffons responded with six unanswered goals, ultimately winning the game 12-5 and ending a two-game losing streak.

Clare Sondrall and Caetryn Gilreath both added strong offensive showings with a pair of goals each. True freshman Maddie Chidester and sophomore Callie Faragher also hit milestones with their first career goals.

Defensively, senior Grace Williams led the team with five ground balls, and junior Maleah Sosa led the game with four caused turnovers. Goalie Ava Garaway improved her record to 3-3 with seven saves.

Western will return to action this Sunday at 3:00 p.m. to take on the Northwood Timberwolves in Midland, Michigan.
