HAYS, Kan. - Missouri Western baseball (1-11, 0-4 MIAA) scored the first run of the game in the third inning, but Fort Hays State fired back with nine runs in the fourth and eventually four runs in the seventh to run rule the Griffons, 14-1, in seven innings at Larks Park in Hays.
Frank Gall homered to right center to get the scoring started, but Missouri Western was held off the board for the rest of the game.
Fort Hays State (9-4, 4-0 MIAA) outhit the Griffons 15-2, and hit three homers themselves.
Lynden Bruegman (0-4) made the start for MWSU and took the loss in 3.2 innings. He struck out four and walked two, and was charged with six runs and six hits. Ty Riley tossed a complete game for Fort Hays State, striking out nine Griffon batters in seven innings, while walking none.
Missouri Western resumes the series at Fort Hays State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
