MARYVILLE, Mo. – Griffon Football (3-7, 2-6 MIAA) took a 38-7 loss to No. 14 Northwest Missouri State on Saturday at Bearcat Stadium.
The Bearcats (9-1, 8-0 MIAA) dominated after MoWest scored a touchdown on its opening series of the game.
Northwest scored 21 points in the second quarter and shut out the Griffons 14-0 in the second half.
Northwest outgained MoWest in rushing yards 273-22 and in total yards 495-178.
Kane Donovan, who threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to
Damir Abdullah to begin the game, went out late in the second quarter with an apparent injury and did not return.
Donovan completed 6-of-15 passes for 95 yards and an interception. Brendan Berwald completed 5-of-10 passes for 45 yards. He rushed for 10 yards as well.
Abdullah finished with 59 yards receiving and the score.
Crew Myers had a team-best four catches for 34 yards.
Desmond Green and
Kamron Lee each led the defense with eight total tackles.
Nicc Oliver and
Marvin Gant each had a sack.
MoWest returns home to face Central Oklahoma on Senior Day. Kickoff on Saturday, November 15 is set for 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the Griffon Sports Network (Varsity Network App, GoGriffons.com/listen) and on the MIAA Network.
