ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Griffon Men's Basketball (3-1) went 2-0 in the Hillyard Tipoff Classic, knocking off Wayne State College, 88-67, on Saturday at MWSU Fieldhouse.
The Griffons trailed in the first half, 30-27, with 4:38 to go, but ended the half on a 15-4 run to lead 42-34 at intermission.
The Griffons kept on coming after that, going on an 11-1 run in the early minutes of the second half to lead 61-41 with still 14:41 to play.
MoWest led by as many as 24, and shot consistently well throughout, connecting on 35-of-69 (50.7%) from the field and 13-of-25 (52%) from three.
Noah King and Gavin Hershberger led the charge with 17 points each. Ty Henry had 13 on a season-best six made field goals. Trey McKowen and Devin Butler each scored nine.
MoWest goes on the road this Wednesday to face Central Region foe Southern Nazarene in Bethany, Oklahoma. Tip-off in that game is set for 7:30 p.m.
