Ashlyn Finarty and
Myah Dwyer combined for eight hits in Missouri Western Softball's doubleheader sweep of Northeastern State Friday. The Griffons defeated the Riverhawks 6-2 in game one and 5-1 in game two, running their record to 22-12 overall and 8-6 in MIAA play. The RiverHawks fall to 7-26 and 2-14 in conference play.
GAME 1 - MWSU 6, NSU 2
Ashlyn Finarty went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with 3 RBI in game one, leading MWSU to a 6-2 win.
Myah Dwyer went 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored, while
Kennedy Preston went 1-for-2 with 2 RBI.
Sydney Rader (12-4) picked up her 12th win of the season in the circle for the Griffons, while Finarty also had a solid outing in relief, scattering 2 hits over 2.2 scoreless innings.
GAME 2 - MWSU 5, NSU 1
Myah Dwyer added two more hits inn game two, including a walk, a run scored and an RBI, and Finarty added two more RBI's in the Griffons' 5-1 win.
Natalie Kissinger picked up the win in the circle, scattering one run on six hits over 3.2 innings of work.
*MWSU players wore teal socks and ribbons in honor of National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The "Teal Game", which partners with the St. Joseph YWCA, has become a Griffon softball and baseball tradition.
Next up for the Griffons, a date with the number four team in the Division II nation, Rogers Stte (29-5) comes to St. Joseph on Saturday. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 12pm.
