Griffon Lacrosse Downs Colorado Springs 20-15

Ryals paces Griffs with career seven-goal day

COLORADO SPRINGS, Co. - After a loss to fifth-ranked Regis on Sunday, Missouri Western Lacrosse concluded it's Colorado road trip on a Rocky Mountain high note, defeating the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs 20-15 Tuesday.

MWSU was led by Serah Ryals, who scored a career-high seven goals in the victory. Jordan Porter added four goals, while Maleah Sosa and Sam Pruitt added three apiece.

The Griffons controlled the offensive side of the ball from start to finish, out-shooting their opponents 46-32. Western also won the ground ball battle 31-21 and had a 22-16 edge in draw controls.

Senior goalie Mackenzie Porter had six saves in 30 minutes, surpassing 500 for her career.

"Today was a great bounce-back game," said head coach Jessica Berg. "The girls came out and played much more aggressively toward the cage and everyone played a big role in the win. The ball was moving much faster on the offensive side and our draw team did a great job winning the 50/50 balls. Some young players really stepped up and it was fun to see. This is a solid team-building win going into conference play."

The Griffons (6-3 overall) open Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Friday March 29th, when they travel to Quincy University. Start time is slated for 5pm.  Friday marks the second meeting of 2024 between MWSU and QU, with the Griffons squeaking out a 13-12 non-conference win back on February 25th.
