ST. JOSEPH - Missouri Western softball completed a doubleheader sweep of Nebraska Kearney on Sunday with scores of 12-4 and 7-3. The wins complete a perfect 4-0 MIAA opening weekend for the Griffons (14-4 overall), who have now won 11 straight games. Ashlyn Finarty hit two home runs on the day, while Dwyer went 5-6 with 7 RBI in the doubleheader.
GAME 1 - UNK 4, MWSU 12 F/5
The Griffons pounded out 12 hits, with home runs from Ashlynn Finnnarty, Mackenzie DeVine and Taylor Bristol to complete a 12-4 run rule victory in game one. MWSU blew it open in the bottom of the second when DeVine launched a grand slam to make it a 6-0 ball game. Myah Dwyer went 2-3 with a double, a triple and 3 RBI. Sydney Rader picked up her eighth victory of the season in the circle, improving her record to 8-1 on the season.
GAME 2 - UNK 3, MWSU 7
Dwyer carried her hot bat into game two, going 3-3 with 4 RBI to help the Griffons complete the Loper sweep with a 7-3 victory. MWSUÂ used four different pitchers to keep the UNK bats at bay, with Harley Pruetting picking up her third victory of the season, scattering 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 4 in 3 innings of work.
The Griffons (14-4 overall, 4-0 MIAA) will step out of conference play to host regional foe Augustana on Tuesday, March 12. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1pm.Â
