Collinsville, IL - Missouri Western softball went 2-0 on day one of the McKendree Invitational Friday with a pair of victories over tournament host McKendree and Missouri-St. Louis.Pitcher Sydney Rader earned victories in both games to improve her record to 5-1 on the season. The Griffons move to 7-4 in 2024 and will face Maryville University and Kentucky Wesleyan College on Saturday.
GAME 1 - MWSU 9, McKendree 2
The Griffons broke open a 2-2 ball game with an eight-run fifth inning to defeat host McKendree 9-2. Ashlyn Finarty went 2-4 with a home run and 2 RBI's. Bubba Hoelscher also went 2-4 with 2 RBI's.Â
Mackenzie Devine hit an inside-the-park home run to start the Griffons' fifth-inning rally. Senior pitcher Sydney Rader picked up the victory in the circle, allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 11 in the complete-game effort.Â
 GAME 2 - MWSU 5, Missouri-St. Louis 4
Bubba Hoelscher walked it off with the game-winning RBI single in the 7th to give the Griffons a 5-4 victory over UMSL. Taylor Jones scored the game-winning run for the Griffons, who were deadlocked in a 4-4 tie with the Tritons from the fourth inning on. Â
Devine and Myah Dwyer each had two hits and one RBI in game two.Finarty pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, while Rader earned her second win of the day by shutting the door on the Tritons in the top of the seventh inning.
