Griffon WBB puts eight-game win streak on the line at ESU

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Now on a huge eight-game winning streak, Griffon Women's Basketball heads into this Saturday's matchup vs. the Emporia State Hornets in Emporia, Kansas.

Griffon WBB (18-4, 12-3 MIAA) will once again hit the airwaves of KFEQ Radio, as fans can tune in with "The Voice of the Griffons" Tommy Rezac on the call. The games will air on KFEQ - AM 680 and the KFEQ Live Stream

Coming off of a 86-52 loss against Northwest Missouri, Emporia State (10-12, 7-9 MIAA) is looking to get back into the win column at home.The team is currently 8-5 on its home court inside White Auditorium this season. Sitting at ninth in the MIAA standings, this Hornets team is ranked 10th and 11th in scoring offense and defense.
 
Who to Watch
Senior forward Faith Paramore is ninth in the MIAA in scoring with a 14.9 ppg. Paramore also sits at third in the conference in rebounds 191 and is the team leader in steals. Sophomore Gracie Gilpin has also made an impact for her team this year. Gilpin is second in the MIAA for 3-pointers with 59 and a three-point ppg average 2.7.
 
Head Coach
Head coach Brian Osterman is in his first season as a head coach after taking the reins of the Hornets program this past year. Osterman is in his 35th year of coaching at the collegiate level. He previously had coached at the NCAA DI level for 15 years, including the last nine years as an assistant coach at K-state. Osterman is no stranger to the Griffons as he is a Missouri Western Men's Basketball Hall of Famer. 
 
Rivalry Record Rabbit Hole
The Griffons are 37-60 record against the Hornets all-time with a 14-34 away record. Having won the last three of their four outings, the Griffons will look to continue their win streak at Emporia. Head Coach Candi Whitaker is 4-4 vs. the Hornets in her career with Missouri Western.

The Griffons wo, 80-60 the last time these two teams played on Dec. 14, 2023, in the Civic Arena. Clarke almost achieved a double-double with a total of 17 points and nine rebounds. In that game, the Griffons got almost half of their points from off of the bench. They also out-rebounded the hornets 47-27 in a strong defensive showing. 
 
ON THIS DAY IN GRIFFON WBB HISTORY

On this day 17 years ago, the 2007 Griffons defeated Fort Hays State83-66 at the MWSU fieldhouse. The Griffons played an overall dominant game by leading 36-17 at the end of the first half. Even with both teams scoring 47 in the second half, the Griffons still took the victory. Western's Jill Johnson had a double-double by scoring 24 points with pullinh down 10 rebounds. The win was the 23rd victory of their season and brought the Griffons to a 23-2 record.
