Comeback effort fall short in 18-11 decision vs. NSU

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Despite making a dent in an 11-0, Griffon Baseball fell 18-11  at the hands of the Northeastern State RiverHawks on Friday at the Spring Sports Complex.

Brayden Haug (0-1) got the ball to start for Missouri Western (7-4, 0-1 MIAA) and took the loss. Chris Mazzini was a bright spot for the Griffons, coming out of the bullpen and throwing two scoreless innings, allowing one hit, with no walks and two strikeouts.

At the plate, the Griffons were led by Noah Cook, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a home run and an RBI. Jared Munk compiled a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Quinton Robertson also chipped in for MWSU, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 11-0, the Griffons first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Western's offense started clicking and put up seven runs, including a two-run single off the bat of sophomore Jackson Bryant and a two-run single from Munk.

The Griffons' deficit grew to 15-7 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the sixth inning. Western cored once on an RBI single off the bat of junior Kaden Doan, which brought the score to 15-8 in favor of the RiverHawks (9-5, 1-0 MIAA).

Northeastern built its lead to 18-8 before the Griffon offense got going, reducing that lead to 18-11 in the ninth.
