Griffons sweep Central Missouri on Senior Day

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Missouri Western Softball won both games against Central Missouri on Saturday, giving the Griffons a Senior Day sweep and tentatively the sixth overall seed in the MIAA Tournament next week.

GAME ONE
Missouri Western 4, Central Missouri 1
The Griffons got the scoring started early thanks to a Kennedy Preston home run to put Missouri Western up 1-0 over the Jennies in the bottom of the second. Mackenzie DeVine added another run in the third with RBI single to score Abby Dickey. Central Missouri (32-19, 16-10 MIAA) got on the board in the fifth, cutting the score to 2-1 with an unearned run. Preston drove in Rian Gere in the sixth, and Maddie Swanson finished the scoring off with an RBI double in the sixth to plate, pushing the score to 4-1. Pitcher Harley Pruetting gave up four hits and no earned runs, improving her record to 17-9 on the season.

GAME TWO
Missouri Western 6, Central Missouri 1 

The bats came out to play in the second game, as the Griffons tallied 12 hits this time around. The Griffons did the majority of the damage int he first inning thanks to momentum-swinging hitting from the whole order. DeVine notched an RBI single early to bring home Abby Dickey in the first. Natalie Weber knocked a single to left field just a few batter later, bringing the score to 2-0 as DeVine scored.

Preston finished the damage off by driving in Chloe Armstrong in with a double to make it 3-0 after just one inning of play. The Griffons never looked back, winning 6-1. Sam Pederson finished with seven strikeouts and the win, moving to 16-6 this season.
