Griffons give Greyhounds a go; fall 15-9 in GLVC semis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Griffon Lacrosse fell to No. 5 UIndy 15-9 on Friday in the semifinal round of the GLVC Tournament, ending their most successful season to date after leading throughout the day at Key Stadium. 

The Griffons found goals from five different players, with Caetryn Gilreath, Sam Pruitt, Jordan Coulon and Karlin York all scoring two twice. Mikaela Ness added one goal as well, scoring Missouri Western's ninth and final goal of the afternoon. 

Six different players scored for the Greyhounds (16-2, 6-0 GLVC), who were led by Joey Fowler's five goals and Quinn Malcolm's three goals and three assists. The win puts UIndy in its fifth-straight conference championship game, not counting the canceled season in 2020. 

Missouri Western came out swinging, shocking the Greyhounds by scoring three goals in the first four minutes of the game. UIndy grabbed three goals of their own in the first quarter, but the high-flying Griffon offense closed out period number one up 6-3. 

The Griffons scored one goal in each of the next three quarters. Four goals in the second quarter from UIndy tied the contest up 7-7 at half. Coulon scored in the early stages of the third quarter give Griffons an 8-7 edge, but the Greyhounds regained the lead and never looked back. UIndy led 10-8 at the end of the third and eventually won the game 15-9. 

Missouri Western closes out the season with the program's first GLVC Tournament appearance. The Griffs finish the year with a 9-8 record and a 3-3 mstk within the GLVC, both program records. During the contest, Ness grabbed her 100th-career draw control, and Pruitt collected her 100th-career point.
