Griffons score 10-straight runs in blowout win at ESU

Box Score EMPORIA, Kan. — Missouri Western Baseball played small ball all day on Friday, using timely hitting to beat Emporia State 10-1 at the Trusler Sports Complex.

The Griffons (12-29, 9-19 MIAA) benefited from excellent performances out of multiple players, most notably Bryson McArn, Jerry Nix and Cale Sackewitz. McArn finished with three hits and three RBI, while Nix also had three runs and tallied two hits, and Sackwitz had two hits and four RBI in the win. As a team, Missouri Western compiled 15 hits and held the Hornets to just three, with the only ESU run coming from a home run in the first inning.

Emporia State looked like it was in the driver's seat early thanks to a Chandler Bloomer home run from the number two spot in the order. The Griffons bounced back with a three-run second inning and went on to do one better in the fourth, scoring four runs to push the score to 7-1.

Runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings sealed the deal for the Griffons, giving them the early advantage in the series. Samson Holcomb grabbed the win for the Griffons, moving to 2-5 this season.
