JOPLIN, Mo. — The bats got loose once again for Griffon Baseball, going off for 14 hits in a 13-8 win over McKendree on Saturday at Warren Turner Field in day two of the MIAA/GLVC Crossover.
Missouri Western (3-2) wasted no time, putting up four runs in the bottom of the first inning. McKendree (0-5) made it a one-run game in the sixth at 4-3, but a
Cale Sackewitz RBI single to right field just a frame later started yet another run for MWSU.
Jackson Bryant took home an RBI after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, setting up a
Brenden Andersen single that brought home two runs after after a McKendree error, scoring Jhontan Pena and Sackewitz.
After a six-run sixth inning and two more in the seventh,
Hunter Rumachik capped MWSU's scoring with a solo shot to left field, putting Missouri Western up, 13-4. McKendree did score four runs in the top of the ninth, but pitcher
Jared Wells weathered the storm and stopped the Bearcats' late comeback attempt.
