ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — The first National Signing Day of the Tyler Fenwick Era featured 21 new Griffon Football student-athletes inking their names in black and gold.
Missouri Western is coming off a 5-6 season overall and in the MIAA, just missing out what would have been its fourth-straight winning season. With Fenwick being hired as head coach in December, he praised Running Backs Coach Patrick St. Louis for getting the new staff up to speed on this class with signing day just barely two months away.
"This first signing class of ours has been a very selective class throughout the recruiting process," Fenwick said. "With our new staff coming in late in the process and getting caught up with the recruiting lists that Coach Patrick St. Louis had for us that we were able to get the guys we needed yet also be able to evaluate the current roster to adapt to future needs. It is not a huge class, but we feel very confident that it is a talented and well-balanced class."
BY THE NUMBERS: CLASS OF 2023
This year's signing day class consists of 21 signees — 10 offensive players and 11 on the defensive side. With former linebacker
Isaac Wallace and his team-high 87 tackles from last season gone with graduation on the horizon, Missouri Western's most-recruited position was the linebacking corps. Missouri Western's most-visited state is Texas, where the Griffs found four offensive players and three on the offensive side of the ball in the Lone Star State.
