Box Score 2 KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The age of
Jessica Fey for Griffon Volleyball started with a win last night, but a loss in game two evened out Friday's start to the Rockhurst Classic.
MATCH 1
MWSU 3, MSU, 1
Missouri Western built a firm command in set one, going up 14-12 at one point. While Minnesota State-Mankato eventually took its own lead, the Griffons knotted it up at 23-23 and ended the set with two-straight kills to take a 1-0 lead.
Set two fell in Mankato's favor, building a 21-8 lead at one point. Griffons never found a lead despite tying the game at 21-21 before ultimately losing after Minnesota State scored four-straight points to take it, 25-21.
After a close start to set three with MWSU leading 7-6, the Griffons siezed the rest of the set. Missouri Western went on an 11-0 run to lead 18-6 before winning 25-12.
The Griffons found themselves in a 6-1 hole early in set four, but a 9-3 run to take a 10-9 lead soothed their troubles. While MSU came back to lead the set 22-20, the Griffons scored three-straight points to take the lead and never looked back, winning 25-23.
Shelby Dannegger led the Griffon offense with 13 kills, while
Lily Kurz added 12 kills.
Zari Montgomery dished out 30 assists, and
Jessica Sachen led the team in digs with 26.

Missouri Western (1-1) starts its Saturday with a a noon matchup with Hillsdale College (1-1). After that is a an evening showdown with the hometown team Rockhust (2-0) at 6 p.m.
