HAYS, Ks. – It's safe to say
Jared Munk left his mark on Fort Hays State this Friday night. Multiple marks, actually.
Griffon Baseball had itself quite the evening at Larks Park, beating the Tigers 13-1 in eight innings on the back of Munk's memorable night hitting for the cycle. The sophomore started his day off in a big way during the second inning with a two-run home run to right field to score himself and
Hunter Rumachik, putting MWSU up 2-0. The hits kept coming with
Brady Holden singling to center field and scoring
Ryan Neise.
The next piece of across the plate was courtesy of Munk once again, this time a one-run double to right that also scored Rumachik.
Riley Higgins grounded into a double play that still scored
Caden Kohout, pushing the Griffons further ahead at 6-0. After a
Brenden Andersen solo shot in the fifth that made it 7-0, Munk singled to left in the seventh, once again bringing home Rumachik.
Leading 8-1 in the eighth, Rumachik brought himself,
Alex Crouch and Higgins around the bags with a three-run rocket to right field. With the bases empty and already up 11-1, Munk had one more chance to check off the last hit needed to complete the cycle – a triple. He didn't take long as he took a 1-1 count deep enough to center field, cementing his cycle into the Missouri Western record books.
Will Courtney brought Munk home with a two-run homer to right-center field to cap the scoring at 13-1.
