ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — In a season where they were picked to finish eighth in their own conference, Griffon Women's Basketball is still dancing all the way down south to the Elite Eight in Birmingham, Alabama.
With their Central Region Championship win over No. 1 seed Fort Hays State, Missouri Western finds itself in the NCAA Championship Quarterfinals for the third time ever. Coming into the new bracket as a No. 7 seed once again, MWSU plays No. 2 seed Grand Valley State on Monday, March 21 at 2:30 p.m. CST at Bill Harris Arena. This will be the Griffons' second-straight game against a top-10 team with the Lakers currently pinned as the No. 6 team in the country and the Tigers of FHSU falling as the No. 4.
The only two other times MWSU made the Elite Eight was during the span of 1994-95. The Griffons made it this year with a gutsy 21-point comeback against Fort Hays led by Jaelyn Haggard and Corbyn Cunningham. Haggard came through with 19 overall and 17 in the second half while Cunningham was cooking early with 19.
